They are amongst the first local authority homes to be built in East Devon in 20 years

SPRING bulbs have been planted to herald the completion of four new council homes at Axminster.

The houses, at Waggs Plot, are amongst the first to be built by East Devon Council in the last two decades.

The planting, to mark their opening, was carried out the district councillor Jill Elson, using bulbs donated by the Tony Benger Landscapes.

Designed by Charles E Ware and Son and constructed by R G Spiller Ltd, the houses, along with two flats at Heals Field, Axminster, and two bungalows in Sidmouth for disabled people, are the first homes to be built by the council in over 20 years.

These six dwellings are part of a total of 17 properties being built in East Devon, with funding from East Devon District Council and an investment of just over 1million from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), through its Local Authority New Build programme, which gives councils the support to deliver affordable housing solutions in their own communities.

Councillor Elson said: “It is many years since the council was in a position to build its own homes and I am delighted that this building programme is now delivering new homes for local people.

“Thanks to the funding we are now able to help families move into homes that they can afford. We are proud to have worked with the local architects Charles E Ware and builders R G Spiller, to develop these high quality, sustainable houses and flats to add to our existing stock of council properties.”
