Protesters march to show domestic abuse the door
PEOPLE in Seaton went on the march to campaign against domestic abuse.
Some 35 people joined Thursday’s “noisy” protest to highlight the issues surrounding violence in the home.
Afterwards a gathering in the town hall heard from several victims of domestic abuse.
The march was organised by East Devon District Council’s Community Safety Officer Gerry Moore, as part of the Devon-wide Domestic Violence Awareness Week.
He said: “We target a specific town each year – this time it was Seaton.
“The idea of the noisy march was to raise awareness of the serious issue of domestic abuse with the public and the shopkeepers and I think we achieved that.”
He said some of the speeches from victims afterwards brought home its affect and were quite “emotional”.
He added: “At some point during their lives at least one in four women and one in six men are affected by some form of domestic abuse.”
