FIREFIGHTERS in Honiton had one of their shortest journeys to put out a blaze last week.
They were called to the former volunteer centre behind Honiton Magistrates' Court, almost opposite their fire station.
Fire engines from Exeter and Sidmouth were also called to the scene at around 2.30pm last Thursday.
The suspected arson attack happened at a temporary structure, which the Midweek Herald understands was being used by the homeless.
Squatters had occupied the building for several weeks before the fire broke out.
It was initially feared a person was trapped inside the building.
The fire did not spread to the court, which is no longer used to hear criminal cases.
