AXMINSTER Town Council will ask East Devon District Council to rename several street names.
Cllr Douglas Hull said during the monthly meeting that he would like to see Hunthay, Stoney Bridges and Old North Street re-instated as postal addresses.
He added that the street sign at Swans should read 'West Street formerly known as Anchor Hill,' and at Symes Lane in Castle Street the sign should say 'formerly Castle Steps'.
He said: "I would like to see them re-instated because they are historic names of Axminster. I would ask EDDC to stop meddling with our names and let us have them back."
Town clerk Hilary Kirkcaldie said: "EDDC is dictated to by Royal Mail." She explained that the street names were removed from the electoral register.
