THEY are back and not beaten by the challenge of their lives! Friends Mitch Cooper and Grant Stevens have conquered the infamous Scumrun, driving a souped up old banger across Europe. The 4,000 kilometre rally took the Honiton men four days and three nights to complete.Architect technician Mitch, 28, and ceiling fixer Grant, 27, were among 100 teams to cross the start line in France. They caught the eye of publicist Max Clifford, who arranged a special photo shoot of the pair and their D-reg Toyota Supra.Despite a number of thrills and spills along the way, their Team Cunning Stunts entry, which entered the fancy dress category with a cow theme, made it to the finish, back in Le Havre."The highlight was going through the mountains into Spain," said Mitch."We could have taken an easy motorway route, but decided to go up the mountains with a few other cars."It was really amazing."Mitch admits, it wasn't all plain sailing."We ended up lost in Barcelona at night, which was slightly worrying," he confessed.Asked if there were any moments he and Grant would prefer to forget, Mitch said: "Yes, constantly worrying about losing water from the engine; it actually covered the windscreen at high speed. "We were losing about two litres of water every 100 miles."We also had a blow out on the front driver's tyre."Mitch and Grant hope to take part in next year's Scumrun, after raising almost 1,000 for the event's official charity, CHASE - nearly double the amount they initially hoped to raise.Overall, the Scumrun is thought to have collected 51,000 for the charity, which supports families with children suffering from life-limiting illnesses.Team Cunning Stunts would like to thank Paul Richards Motors for preparing the car for the rally with parts from ALS/Just Japanese.Other sponsors were: JD Tyres and Exhausts, Dave Chaffey Ceilings, Wing Hong, The Pit Club, The Star Inn, Bennetts Building Services, ATB Junkies, Westructure and WWD Limited (Total Construction Management).
