MODEL railway enthusiast Brian Payne, of Honiton, pulled out all the stops to entertain local residents recently when he staged an open day in his back garden.The event raised �420 for Hospiscare and delighted all those who saw his G-scale, outdoor railway in action.Of particular interest to many was a re-enactment of Isambard Brunel's first crossing over the Tamar Bridge in Plymouth, in 1859.Mr Brunel was ill at the time and Mr Payne's re-enactment included a model of the genius engineer lying down on a couch.Some of the visitors to the open day turned up with their own trains, which joined Mr Payne's on the miniature railway network.Mr Payne and his wife, Diana, wish to thank all sponsors and individuals for their contributions in making the day a success.n Visit the Herald's website to see a video of the railway in action.
