Reading Your Letters of late is really beginning to get me down. They are full of moans and reports of a dying and dead Seaton that is obviously doomed to be sent into oblivion.Once, living in a small village, I became fed up with the apparent inadequacy of the parish council so I decided to join them intending to "get things done". However, I very soon discovered that things are not that simple and began to appreciate the huge amount of time, resources, endless meetings and plain hard work go into what is a frustrating, infuriating, slow system in order to try and "get things done". So, please, before criticising our town council for doing nothing, find out just what it is they are doing behind the scenes to put Seaton on the map. I hear, endlessly doing nothing is not an option. However, plumping for second best at this stage is being very short-sighted. We have a potential gem. Some would argue that we have a gem already. It just needs a bit of polishing. So, please, can't we all cheer up and look at the positive things going on. The George pub is being cleaned up, that can't be bad. We have a strong Stand up 4 Seaton. We have a lot of spirit and resources and loads of events of one sort or another - we just have to carry on with a smile and think all the time of what we might have. To accept a lot of ugly buildings would mean we would continually look back on what we might have had. Gloom breeds gloom. Smile and the world smiles with you. Hilary Arnold Seaton
