I have just read last week's Midweek Herald and a story is sticking in my mind - "Snow hero fears road backlash". I would like to make the following points: The gritter lorries were not kept from Honiton High Street as they were not kept from any other route. I know this as I was driving the lorry responsible for Honiton High Street myself! The route also covers Upottery, Yarcombe, Chard and Axminster. It takes approximately two-and-a-half hours but, in the terrible weather that Thursday night, it took nearly three-and-a-half. I started my route at 7 30pm and didn't stop going around until 8am on the Friday. I am only saddened that my efforts were so unappreciated and unnoticed - after all I only did my best in very bad weather. Where has the bill for 10,000 come from? The damage to the High Street would have to be extreme to cost that much! I am sure that our snow hero has nothing to worry about as any help was very welcome on a night like that.NAME AND ADDRESS SUPPLIED
