ALTHOUGH the severity of the recent snowfall in Honiton was rare, snow is not that uncommon in the town - as pensioner Betty Gigg knows only too well.She has recorded every snow event in Honiton ever since the great drifts of 1978, when she was photographed struggling through a snow clogged High Street to reach Hillside Garage to buy paraffin for a heater.More than 30 years later, she says snow has fallen 60 times since."The snow we had recently was not as bad as in 1978," said Mrs Gigg, 83 (pictured right)."It has snowed 60 times since then and I have written down every date."I don't mind snow, but I don't like it so much now that I'm older."I stayed in for five days recently and my neighbours looked after me."Mrs Gigg was born in Sidbury, but moved to Honiton shortly afterwards - being driven to the town on the back of a motorbike while still in her Christening gown."I consider myself a Honitonian," she said."I will carry on recording snowfall for as long as I can.
