Join the Shrub Club and help Hospiscare raise £24,000 to create a very special garden for patients and families to enjoy at the new East Devon Day Hospice.
Already £150,000 has been raised towards the £250,000 appeal to complete, equip and run the hospice for a year. It is being built in King Street, Honiton.
Hospiscare fundraiser Sarah Smith said: “Our previous fundraising project, the Tub Club, was hugely successful with local businesses paying for the hospice bathroom. Now we’re asking everyone in the local community to join the Shrub Club. Your generous sponsorship will go a long way in helping our patients and their families live life to the full; giving them a place of peace and relaxation at a very difficult time.”
Local garden designer Kathryn Alto has designed the space to offer a restful and natural environment, with the use of purples, blues, oranges and greens to give it a vibrant, yet soft feeling.
There will be layers of plants, hedges and trees with a curved pathway leading to the centre which has a relaxing water feature with a seating area.
Members from Honiton Round Table will be planting the garden.
Kathryn, who has donated a lot of time to this project, has designed it to meet the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of people with terminal illnesses, their families and caregivers.
She said: “This design was guided by the idea of providing sanctuary and contemplation in a beautiful and contemporary garden. It is intended to be a place where people feel transported to a place which stimulates the senses while calming the spirit.”
