A planning application has been submitted for 12 new houses to be built on the site of the former Tillhouse Farm in Cranbrook. Applicant David Lock Associates has submitted a planning application for 12 houses with associated car parking and landscaping on the site which will ‘reflect the original features of the farmhouse.’ All existing buildings and structures on the farm will be demolished if the plans are approved, except for the ‘red brick dairy’ building which will be converted to create two of the twelve new houses on the site. Tillhouse Farm has recently been de-listed as Grade II and is now set to be demolished to make way for 12 new homes. Four houses are proposed to replace Tillhouse Farmhouse. Two storeys in height, reflecting the original form and height of the existing building. A red brick wall is proposed on the northern edge of the rear gardens to the new terrace, replacing an existing closed boarded timber fence in the same location. Five houses are proposed in two outbuildings on the former farm and four of the new homes are located in a terrace that uses dormer windows to reduce the overall ridge The existing red brick dairy building is proposed to be retained and converted into two more houses. The external walls and roof form of the existing building are retained to conserve the historic character of the building. An existing tree is retained in the courtyard space and parking is located away from the courtyard or at its edges so that cars do not dominate the space. The plans will be discussed by Cranbrook Town Council planning committee before East Devon District Council makes the final decision.
