Seaton residents have been airing their concerns over a plan to build 130 new homes in Harepath Road.

A total of 150 residents attended a meeting on Tuesday, Feburary 21 at Seaton Gateway Theatre.

The meeting was chaired by former County Councillor Martin Shaw.

Speakers included present and past councillors, with contributions made by several concerned local residents.

The application has been prepared by Boyle & Summers, on behalf of Baker Estates who are asking for: "Outline planning application for mixed use development comprising of up to 130 dwellings to the east of Harepath Road and the laying out of a new community football pitch, parking and welfare facilities to the west of Harepath Road, formation of accesses on Harepath Road and Colyton Road, public open space and other associated infrastructure."

The meeting concluded with a nearly unanimous objection to the proposed development of the site by show of hands.

A sports pitch which the applicant says will 'meet the requirements of the local community and will provide recreation space for the community and promote healthy and active lifestyles' was objected to by residents becuase of light and noise pollution.

Although affordable housing is also included as part of the application, residents raised concerns that there is no legal requirement that the developers will supply these homes.

The applicant did state in the application that 25 per cent of the development will be affordable as per the East Devon Local Plan.

Residents almost unanimously displayed their objection to the proposals at the meeting. Seaton Town Council will meet again to reconsider their supporting position on the application on Monday March 6. 

The application at this stage is 'outline planning' which means plans are submitted and accessed by planning officers befre being decided or refused. If they are approved, the applicant will submit a more detailed plan to officers.
