A fundraising event has been held at Axminster Heritage Centre for the Royal British Legion's Tommy Appeal.

The event took place on Thursday, February 16 and was organised by Gina Youens. It raised a total of £205 for the Royal British Legion Axminster branch.

More than 100 people came to the event, which will help veterans gain skills for employment and also help them with housing.

This is a very worthwhile cause as many veterans need support when returning to civilian life after serving in the military, particularly at the moment when things are especially hard for us all.

Fresh coffee and homemade cakes were served. The local Axminster branch Chairman, Mr Peter Slimon, was present along with the Chaplain Reverend Clive and Axminster Town Crier Nick Goodwin.

The British Legion are hoping to reach out to families of service men and women who have moved to the Axminster area who need support and guidance.
