The Seaton u3a have welcomed a talk from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service on the subject of fire safety in the home.
Simon Nicholls from Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service gave a presentation to the group with lots of tips and advice about how to keep safe in the home, which was very well received by his audience.
Simon has been a firefighter for more than 30 years, more recently Simon gives talks to school/college safety around fire, road, and water and works with vulnerable families through the Fire Setter Intervention programme.
Early warning of the outbreak of a fire is crucially important in preventing serious injury and damage. The correct placement, fitting and maintenance of smoke alarms is one of the most important things but they must be checked regularly.
The advice in the event of a fire is to get out, closing any doors behind you, stay out and call 999.
