Offcers from Honiton Police Station have dealt with two unexploded grenades found in East Devon - in one weekend.

A nine-year old boy from Honiton found an unexploded grenade from WW2 in his back garden last weekend (Saturday, March 25).

Sgt Bacon and PC Driver detonated the grenade in a controlled explosion by colleagues from 721 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Squadron, Royal Logistics Corps.

Sgt Bacon and PC Driver were then called to a house in Beer to deal with yet another grenade. This time, its sailors from Bravo Diving Unit One at HM Naval Base Devonport who are on route to assist with the disposal.

According to Devon and Cornwall Police, this is quite common in Devon where a number of devices either wash on shore or are located when clearing out a loved-ones property after being kept as a keepsake.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "If you find anything like this in your garden or home, try to remain calm and clear everyone away from the immediate area. Call us on 999 from a safe distance away from the item and be prepared to go and let your neighbours know until help arrives."
