A motorist has been cleared of causing serious injury by driving dangerously on a road in East Devon after the prosecution dropped the case at Exeter Crown Court.
Ciro Ficarotta, aged 53, from Somerset, was acquitted of a single count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving by Judge David Evans after the Crown Prosecution Service offered no evidence.
He had been due to stand trial in October 30 accused of causing caused serious injury to motorcyclist Stephen Hill while driving a Nissan Juke car on the A373 at Colliton, near Honiton, on the afternoon of July 6 last year.
Miss Kelly Scrivener, prosecuting, said the case had been reviewed and a decision taken that it should not be proceeded with.
Mr Patrick Mason, defending, said the decision was not a surprise. He was awarded a defendant’s costs order.
