The Uplyme and Lyme Regis Horticultural Society will be taking its members on a global tour.

Taking place on Wednesday April 26 with the talk ‘Around the World in 80 Plants’ by Professor Jonathan Drori CBE. In his talk he will bring to life the science of plants by revealing how their worlds are intricately entwined with our own history, culture and folklore. From the seemingly familiar tomato and dandelion to the eerie mandrake and Spanish ‘moss’ of Louisiana, by way of lotus, nutmeg and the obscure iboga, each story is full of surprises.

Professor Drori is a trustee of The Eden Project, ambassador for the WWF and previously trustee of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and The Woodland Trust. He was Executive Producer of more than fifty popular BBC TV series on science and technology. As well as his book Around the World in 80 Plants he is author of Around the World in 80 Trees, a bestseller now in 19 languages.

The talk is preceded by the Chairman’s competition for best stem/vase of spring flowers from bulbs, corms or tubers. Entries must be in place by 7.15pm for judging.

Doors open for refreshments 7pm; talk starts 7.30pm. Members free; non-members £3.
