A new banking hub is to open in Axminster, in the former Lloyds premises in Trinity Square.

It will offer a counter service operated by the Post Office and will also be a shared base for HSBC, Santander, Lloyds, NatWest and Barclays. Customers of those banks will be able to come in and talk to staff from their own banking provider.

These community bankers will be on hand from 9am until 5pm on the following days:

Monday: HSBC

Tuesday: Santander

Wednesday: Lloyds

Thursday: NatWest

Friday: Barclays

The hub is being set up by Cash Access UK, a not-for-profit company established by 10 major high street banking providers to provide cash and basic banking services in communities across the UK. These currently include shared banking hubs and deposit services, but Cash Access UK is also working with suppliers to test other services that it plans to offer in future.

Gareth Oakley, chief executive officer at Cash Access UK, said: “We are delighted to announce that we have secured a great location for the Axminster Banking Hub. The Hub upon opening will positively impact the local community, businesses and tourists in this market town by supporting them with cash services.”

Richard Foord, MP for Tiverton and Honiton, said: “The Banking Hub will be a welcome addition to the community, especially supporting those who rely on cash and face-to-face banking. I look forward to visiting the new Hub and witnessing its positive impact on Axminster and surrounding communities.”

Cash Access UK is currently working to fit out the new premises, and will update the community on progress and an opening date as soon as possible. The latest news can be found on the Axminster Banking Hub page on the Cash Access UK website.

Cash Access UK believes that cash is still important to millions of people in the UK, despite the increasing move to digital and online banking services.

The organisation said: “Between five and six million adults say they rely on cash in their day-to-day lives. Digital or online solutions don’t yet work for everyone all the time. We've found that Banking Hubs and other services can make a real difference to individuals, small businesses and the communities they live in.”
