Exmouth has been showing off its horticultural glories to two sets of Britain in Bloom judges – the regional and national panels.
Exmouth in Bloom has set its sights on a Gold award in both competitions.
On Tuesday, July 25, Richard Beale and Nigel Bloxham from South West in Bloom assessed Exmouth’s entry for the Champion of Champions. They spent three and a half hours touring the town and met representatives of Devon County Council, East Devon District Council, Exmouth Town Council, Devon Wildlife Trust, Littleham C of E Primary School, Plastic Free Exmouth, Exmouth Art Group and many of Exmouth in Bloom’s Blue Team volunteers.
Two days later Mary Bagley and Geraldine King from RHS Britain in Bloom came to judge Exmouth in the National Finals (Coastal Section). They were transported in style to the various locations around the town in a 100-year-old Morris Cowley provided by World of Country Life.
At the receptions held at Sun Lodge at the end of both tours, Devon County Councillor Jeff Trail and Mayor Olly Davey spoke in praise of all three councils – town, district and county - working together to help Exmouth in Bloom make such a difference to the town.
The judges all expressed their enjoyment of the day and said they loved the feel of the community working together to create Exmouth’s ‘magnificent, colourful, uplifting’ displays.
Chairman of Exmouth in Bloom, Gerry Bassett, thanked the town and district councils and all the volunteers for their ‘outstanding’ commitment in preparing the town for the judges’ visits. The results of both competitions will be announced in October.
