Ben Eddy is walking 330 miles in three weeks from Cornwall to Kent to raise funds for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

Ben, who grew up in Seaton, Axminster and attended Axe Valley Academy, but now lives in Falmouth, will begin his 21-day walk on December 10, from the Roseland Peninsula to Tunbridge Wells in Kent, arriving for his nephew's 18th Birthday. Using the South West Coast path for much of the walk, Ben will be joined by some of his old schoolmates on the East Devon legs of his walk before heading into Dorset, Hampshire, West Sussex, East Sussex and finally Kent.

You can follow Ben’s walk on Instagram @walkfordoddie or donate to his fundraising effort.

Ben is a huge rugby fan, Ben has been inspired by the late, great Doddie Weir who did so much to raise the profile of MND and by England Coach Kevin Sinfield who has raised over £8 million pounds for MND charities.

Ben hopes his efforts will raise £5,555 a nod to Doddie Weir’s shirt no.5. Ben hopes to link up with grassroots rugby clubs en route to increase awareness and help raise funds. On  December 17 Ben with family and friends are being welcomed by the Exeter Chiefs as they take on Munster in the Champions Cup.

Ben said: “I’m taking most of December off work to walk in what could be awful weather to raise funds for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. I’ll be walking all over Christmas but it’s a small sacrifice to make compared to how life changes for those affected by this awful disease, but I can’t wait to walk through my old hometown with the lads I grew up with and who are still my best mates more than 30 years later."

Paul Thompson, director of fundraising at My Name'5 Doddie Foundation said: "330 miles in just three weeks is a mammoth undertaking and we'd like to thank Ben for taking on this challenge in support of My Name'5 Doddie Foundation.  "Each step that Ben takes will be taking us one step closer to finding effective treatments for MND and we look forward to following his progress".
