It was a busy day for Axminster fire crews on Thursday as drivers grappled with a flurry of floods in East Devon.

On December 7, local fire stations were kept on high alert as flood warnings were issues across the region.

These included numerous rescue scenarios that saw Axminster Fire Station, alongside those from Chard and Weymouth, rescuing residents from their flood-stricken vehicles.

The first incident of the day took place at Forde Abbey from 12.36pm to 1.18pm, in which crews rescued one occupant from the roof of the vehicle using Wading gear.

Chaos continued at Weycroft Bridge until 2.17pm with emergency services successfully rescuing another individual using water rescue equipment.

The team was called to Whitford Bridge, Colyton at 2.30pm.

Partnered with Seaton Fire Station and water rescue teams from Weymouth, Axminster successfully encountered two people in a vehicle, using Wading gear to guide them to safety.

Next, at 4.08pm, there was an incident at Trafalgar Way.

Crews assisted one person, who was inside a vehicle trapped in floodwater.

Into the evening, after dealing with a casualty at Weycroft Bridge until 5.15pm, crews swiftly removed a stranded motorist at Trafalgar Way due to rising water levels.

After a brief check on Millbrook's levels near Willhayes Lane at the request of an officer, Axminster crews spent their time until 6.41pm on standby, ready to assist the environment agency amidst concerns of rising water levels at Castle Hill.

It was feared residents might need to evacuate the area.

Axminster Fire Station said in a statement posed on Facebook: "A flat out one for our team yesterday again.

"A massive thank you goes out to their places of work for allowing their crews to attend incidents - Arada Stoves and Westcrete."
