A number of new Bleed Control Kits have been installed across Axminster to treat injuries that involve rapid blood loss.

The initiative, which follows a public suggestion and a decision by Axminster Town Council, offers residents 24/7 access to the life-saving resources.

These kits have been supplied by the Daniel Baird Foundation, designed to arrest blood flow until the arrival of emergency services.

Defibrillator cabinets at three locations (The Guildhall on West Street, Bennett and Rogers Opticians at Trinity Square, and the Spar Shop at Millwey Rise) will hold the kits.

Additionally, a dedicated cabinet is installed at Cloakham Lawns Sports Centre, a community facility primarily benefiting skatepark patrons, complementing the onsite defibrillator.

Midweek Herald: The initiative, which follows a public suggestion and a council decision, offers residents 24/7

In case of any injury resulting in rapid blood loss, residents should immediately dial 999.

Informing the operator about the proximity to a Bleed Control kit cabinet will generate a code, allowing access to the kit for immediate, emergency first aid.

While everyone hopes these kits may never be required, their presence ensures readiness for any eventuality.

The council has briefed both the local police and fire services, as well as SWAST (the ambulance service), about this addition to the town's emergency support system.

The council also urges all residents to familiarize themselves with the nearest units' locations.

As the council continually works round the clock for the town, these installations signify Axminster's commitment to community welfare and safety, bolstering residents' confidence and reinforcing the town's robust emergency response framework.

Preparations are on to ensure smooth functioning of these kits, with guidelines available on the foundation's website, controlthebleed.org.uk, explaining how to use them properly.
