East Devon residents have been invited to share their thoughts on the future of the district's cemeteries.

East Devon District Council, which manages cemeteries in Seaton, Sidbury and Sidmouth, recently updated its cemetery regulations and is seeking public feedback via a survey.

A district council spokesperson said: "We have recently updated our cemetery regulations and are now after your thoughts.

"Do you agree that a single set of regulations should apply to all three cemeteries in East Devon?

"You have until January 22, 2024 to read our new regulations and have your say."

Cemetery 'regulations' were approved in the case of Sidbury and Sidmouth in 1952 and Seaton in 1974.

Minor changes have been made since this time, including the introduction of the Seaton Woodland section.

The proposal is for a unified set of regulations to be applicable across the three sites.

This proposal draws upon the existing regulations, the Local Authorities Cemeteries Order 1977, recent experience and best practices from across the country.

The council began receiving responses on December 4, with the consultation period ending on January 22.

Feedback from residents, elected members, businesses, and trade groups are all welcomed.
