Lilac has been listed among the 100 best restaurants in the UK outside London by the independent guide SquareMeal.

The restaurant in Broad Street is number 61 in the UK ratings, which are compiled through a combination of reader votes and reviews by SquareMeal's own critics.

London has its own SquareMeal Top 100, allowing the wider UK’s dining scene to be represented.

The listing for Lilac reads: "Housed within a 400-year-old cellar in Lyme Regis, Lilac is a relaxed restaurant and wine bar from the same team behind Robin Wylde, with a major focus on sustainability. Enjoy its seasonal sharing plates alongside low-intervention wines, local beers and exciting cocktails."

SquareMeal’s restaurants editor Pete Dreyer said: "Restaurants never cease to amaze us - every year we're blown away by talented teams, who always seem to find new, innovative ways to push the boundaries of food.

'As always we're so grateful to everyone who works in hospitality, and we're forever in awe of the passion and love that goes into restaurants up and down the country. A huge thank you also to the thousands upon thousands who voted to support their favourite restaurants this year."

The team at Lilac have posted on Facebook to say they're 'delighted' to be included in the Top 100 list.
