St. Gregory’s Church in Seaton has installed a potentially life-saving community defibrillator outside their church.

The defibrillator is situated at St. Gregory’s Church Centre, Colyford Road, Seaton, EX12 2DF.

Churchwardens Dave Dickinson and David House said: "We are very grateful to Gavin Warren of GW Electrics for installing the heated cabinet. This was made possible from a generous legacy and a match funding grant."

The unit is situated on the outside wall facing Colyford Road and is accessible to the public 24/7. You can find the nearest defibrillator to you by searching on British Heart Foundation's 'Defib Finder'

AEDs are used to revive someone from sudden cardiac arrest. This is when a disruption in the heart's electrical activity causes a dangerously fast heartbeat (ventricular tachycardia) or a fast and irregular heartbeat (ventricular fibrillation).

If you're having one of these irregular heart rhythms, your heart doesn't pump effectively and may even stop.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) after cardiac arrest can keep blood flowing to your heart and brain for a time. But often only defibrillation can restore the heart's normal rhythm. Together these treatments can improve your chances of survival.

In the event of a suspected cardiac arrest, please call 999 and you will be directed to the nearest defibrillator and given the access code, which could be ours.
