Chilcotts Auctioneers enjoyed a rare 'white glove' sale where every single lot was sold.

The uncommon event occurred during Chilcotts Auctioneers most recent auction of jewellery, watches, silver and gold coins.

In the world of auctions, a 'white glove' sale signifies 100 per cent of lots sold, a phenomenon which is quite rare.

Duncan Chilcott, upon realising that all lots were likely to sell, decided to have a little fun.

He asked the valuer and auctioneer, Jennifer Bell, to wear white gloves for the final lot.

Ms Bell humorously responded: "No pressure then!" as she commenced the bidding.

After the successful sale of the final lot, she was presented with flowers and a bottle of fizz.

This distinctive live sale was held at Chilcotts Dolphin Sale Room in Honiton.

It consisted of 535 lots, including jewellery, silver, coins and watches, all from private individuals and estates.

The average selling price of the lots was £324 with a stainless steel fifty fathoms flyback dive Blancpain watch fetching the highest price at £4,600, followed by a cased set of four 1887 gold coins which sold for £4,000 and an 18ct yellow gold watch chain for £3,400.

Midweek Herald: The uncommon event occurred during Chilcotts Auctioneers most recent auction of jewellery,

Jennifer Bell, a silver and jewellery specialist in Chilcotts, and the curator of this sale, expressed her delight.

She said: "It was a really positive auction; especially given the gloom and doom we keep hearing!

"It was most likely helped along by the recent increase in world commodity prices which has made silver and gold items even more desirable."

Ms Bell added: "In such a buoyant auction market, it's a good time to think about having items valued.

"A valuation is free and doesn't commit you to selling but could help you decide if it's something you've been thinking about for a while."
