A week of action is shining a light on the vital contributions of neighbourhood officers in Devon.

Neighbourhood Policing Week is currently under way across Devon and Cornwall, with teams highlighting the daily efforts of officers, PCSOs, and staff who work closely with residents, partners, and organisations to prevent crime and build safer communities.

Their work spans anti-social behaviour, retail crime, and protecting vulnerable people, all delivered through a visible and accessible community presence.

Assistant Chief Constable Glen Mayhew QPM said: "Neighbourhood Policing Week is an opportunity for us to highlight the vital role our officers play in building trust, listening to local concerns, and working side by side with communities to prevent crime and keep people safe.

"Policing is at its strongest when it’s rooted in relationships, and that’s exactly what neighbourhood policing is all about."

Neighbourhood officers are based within the communities they serve, focusing on the issues that matter most to the public and building lasting relationships.

Throughout the week, teams are sharing examples of how their work is making a difference in towns and villages across the region.

Devon and Cornwall’s police and crime commissioner Alison Hernandez said: "Neighbourhood policing teams across the peninsula do an incredible job all year round to help keep our communities safe.

"Thanks to the government’s Neighbourhood Police Guarantee, Devon & Cornwall Police has been benefiting from an uplift in PCSOs.

"The grant has been replaced with ringfenced funding for neighbourhood officers instead who are the ears and eyes on the ground and much such a vital difference."

Residents are encouraged to visit the police website to find their local officer, check upcoming events, and set policing priorities in their area.

They can also sign up for Community Messaging to receive direct email updates about incidents and events in their area.
