A hidden beach is quietly making a name for itself as a fossil hunter’s dream.
Hooken Beach in East Devon, tucked between the villages of Beer and Branscombe, is becoming known as one of the UK’s top secret spots for uncovering ancient treasures.
Alex Gwillim, a local travel expert at Sweetcombe Cottage Holidays, said: "Hooken Beach is a secluded treasure that not many people know about because it is tucked between more popular spots like Beer and Branscombe.
"East Devon is well known for its dramatic Jurassic Coast, and many visit the area every year to hunt for fossils.
"But this stretch of coastline remains relatively untouched, making Hooken Beach one of the best places to find treasures of the prehistoric past."
The white chalk cliffs above the beach regularly reveal fossils such as echinoids, ammonites, and brachiopods.
Visitors are also drawn to the area for its stunning coastal scenery.
Hooken Cliffs hold a 4.8/5 rating on TripAdvisor, with one visitor noting, "The views around Beer and Branscombe are unspoilt," and another praising the "magnificent views”.
He said: "Whether you’re a keen fossil hunter or looking for a unique activity to entertain the family, I would highly recommend a trip to Hooken Beach.
"For the best chance of finds, aim to visit at low tide when the seashore is at its most exposed."
Safety remains a concern due to the actively eroding cliffs.
Alex said: "The chalk cliffs at Hooken are active and continue to erode, which is part of what makes fossil hunting here so rewarding, so take extra precautions and keep a safe distance away from the cliff face and edge."
There are plenty of places to stay nearby, including seaside cottages, B&Bs, and holiday chalets with uninterrupted sea views.
