Long queues through market town as traffic is diverted but highway expected to reopen at 6pm
Main road traffic is currently (Wednesday August 12, 5pm) being diverted through the centre of Axminster after an accident on the A35.
Police say the highway between the A358 Axminster and B3165 Crewkerne Road (Raymond’s Hill) is closed in both directions following the collision.
They say the road is expected to be closed until around 6pm leading to heavy congestion in Axminster town centre and the approach roads to the town
The incident, which happened at 3.30pm, involved a collision between a car and lorry. Two people were taken to hospital, one by air ambulance and one by land ambulance. One person is said to have suffered spinal injuries and the other had whiplash.
