There is free admission for children and teenagers, aged 16 and under, at the Melplash Agricultural Show again this year.

The popular annual event, on fields between Bridport and West Bay, takes place tomorrow (Thursday, August 24), from 8am to 6pm.

Local farmers are busy preparing their animals to compete for the top prizes in the many livestock classes.

There is also an outstanding selection of horse, pony and donkey competitions.

In the home produce, handicraft, horticultural, floral art and woodcraft sections there are classes to suit all interests and ages.

For the aspiring chef there are numerous cookery competitions to enter, including the popular Scotch egg competition, which this year is going to be sponsored and judged by the Anchor Inn at Seatown, recently recognised as England’s best pub by Visit England.

All the competition schedules are available to view on www.melplashshow.co.uk, where entries can also be made online.

On Show Day there will be a full programme of special attractions in the Toolstation main ring including show-stopping performances by the Stampede Stunt Company.

All the favourites will be back, too, including the popular countryside area with its rural displays and country sports arena, and for youngsters an even bigger and better ‘Discover Farming and Farming for the Future’ marquee – a must for families interested in learning about food production and farming.

The food hall will again be brimming with the finest award-winning food and drink in the area, and there will be an excellent selection of ‘food-to-go’ around the show field.

With more than 300 trade stands, two indoor craft marquees, a fun fair and lots more, visitors of all ages are guaranteed a full day’s entertainment.

Children 16 and under can attend free. Adult tickets on the day are £16, or £14 in advance. They can be bought online (www.melplashshow.co.uk) or from local venues. There is a free bus throughout the day from Lyme Regis stopping at bus stops in Charmouth, Chideock and Bridport, a free park and ride on the Burton Road and also free parking off the A35.
