A35 closed after serious accident near Axminster

At least two people suffered severe injuries after a two car collision

At least two people were seriously injured in a two car collision on the A35 near Loughwood Farm, outside Axminster, late last night (Friday, November 18).

The accident happed at around midnight and the road has been closed with diversions in place.

Fire appliances from Axminster, Colyton and Honiton attended the incident.

On arrival crews confirmed that the incident involved two vehicles and that one person was trapped in one of the vehicles. Fire Service personnel released the person trapped using hydraulic cutting equipment. There were five further casualties, two of which were released from the vehicles before arrival of Fire Service suffering severe injuries.

To deal with the incident fire crews used hydraulic cutting equipment, a thermal image camera, small tools, lighting and oxygen therapy.

Diversions between Axminstet and honiton are currently in place and it is thought the road will not reopen until around noon today (Saturday, November 19).
