THE Highways Agency has said it will improve safety on the A35 through Kilmington.A representative of the agency announced during the annual parish meeting that changes would include reducing the speed limit of 50mph and anti-skid surfacing at Kilmington Cross Junction. The dangers of the A35 and the high accident rate in the area have been a concern for many people, and around 90 villagers turned out for the meeting.Other proposed safety measures include: new signs warning drivers of junctions and pedestrians and 'slow' markings; better bus stop facilities, such as raised kerbs and markings on the road surface; dropped kerbs and tactile paving at crossing points; and the infrastructure at Kilmington Cross to be moved or removed to improve visibility.Villagers welcomed the changes but said they would like to see the speed limit reduced further and a traffic-light controlled crossing.
