WORK has begun on 12 new affordable homes at Bonners Glen, Axminster.
Eight new flats and four new houses will be built on the site, thanks to funding from the Homes and Communities Agency.
Sanctuary Shaftesbury, a leading member of UK housing provider Sanctuary Group, is working in partnership with East Devon District Council to build the homes, which will be available to local people via nominations from the latter.
Sanctuary's senior development manager Verena Womersley said: "Sanctuary is delighted to be working with EDDC and the HCA on this project, which we are confident will breathe new life into the area as well as help address the need for more affordable housing.
"Developing homes that meet such high ecological standards is important and we are confident that the project will be of great benefit to the local community."
Cllr Jill Elson, EDDC's portfolio holder for communities, said affordable housing was one of their key priorities.
