Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT) is stepping up its campaign to encourage people to donate unwanted goods to its 10 charity shops across the county.

The charity is looking for good quality clothing, bric-a-brac, furniture, books, CDs and DVDs to replenish its stocks in the run up to Christmas.

Chrissie Peel, the charity's Retail Manager said, "We are committed to our shops, as they are an essential part of our fundraising. They represent the charity in the community and it's important we keep the charity, service and work undertaken as high profile as possible.

"We would normally make an appeal for donations as the Christmas buying season approaches and decided to opt for Air Ambulance Day which falls this Saturday as the right occasion to do so."

DAAT's charity shops indeed play an important role in fund-raising having provided over 630,000 towards air ambulance operations in 2008.

DAAT's shops can be found in Exeter (Cowick Street and Heavitree), Barnstaple, Honiton, Exmouth, Plymouth, Newton Abbott and two in Topsham.

The charity cannot accept white goods such as fridges, freezers, cookers, nor televisions. And can only accept soft furnishings such as sofas if they have a fire retardant certificate/label.

Donors with large items of a large number of items can call 07944 392664 to arrange pick up.

DAAT also markets its own range of branded goods. More information concerning the charity's online shop and about the charity shops can be found be visiting www.daat.org
