Appeal for modern radio equipment launched.

AIR cadets in Honiton have launched a mayday appeal for new radio equipment and are calling on the community for help.

The 1064 squadron of the Air Training Corps, based in Honiton, is looking for donations of modern shortwave or amateur radio equipment to help with training exercises and replace some of its more outdated radios.

“It would mean we would be able to do more with the radio equipment,” says communications instructor Linden Allen. “It will brighten up the horizons for our young people who may not have had these facilities available before.

“There are all sorts of amazing things on the airwaves.”

He added: “If we have got modern equipment we can use it to explore what is out there.”

By having more modern equipment the cadets would be able to pick up different satellites and would even be able to communicate with their counterparts in training corps around the world.

Anyone who has equipment they wish to donate is urged to contact Warrant Officer Chris Woods or CI Allen on 01404 43286 or email oc.1064@aircadets.org
