Broadclyst School will be able to implement its School Travel Plan thanks to 5,000 given by Devon County Council from funds allocated from the sale of Exeter International Airport. The 5,000 was allocated by Broadclyst and Whimple county councillor Derek Button from his local projects fund. The money will pay for the existing car park at the Red Lion Inn to be extended. The licensees allow the car park to be used by pupils at the school but at present they have to cross the main road. The extension to the car park will provide a direct pedestrian link. As a result the school intends to introduce a school Walking Bus.The larger car park will also be used by those attending services at the adjacent village church as well as people visiting the inn.Councillor Button said: "I am very happy to see this plan come to fruition. There have been many occasions, particularly at school drop-off and pick-up times, that I have feared for the safety of children and parents alike. It will also be of great benefit to the Red Lion and the Church when big events are on.
