Seaton and District Art Society draws high praise from visitors to its 40th birthday show
Seaton and District Art Society’s 40th annual exhibition received high praise from visitors.
The judges found it difficult to choose from the splendid display of paintings, sculptures, ceramics and mixed media as the members’ entries were all of a very high standard.
The President’s Cup went to Michael A E Beach for his innovative work entitled “Market Day”, depicting a large sow on its way to the market.
The Maggie Lodge Rose Bowl was presented to Magie Luff for “Lillies” while Joyce Fountain’s delightful watercolour of “Llanberris Pass”, North Wales, where she spent many a holiday, won her the Devon Framer’s Cup.
Rosemary Bentley’s exquisitely painted miniature of her mother entitled “Marjory” was given the Barbara Hollinsworth Award. The Bob Hurndell Memorial Cup for wildlife went to Michael A E Beach for his “Maud and Matilda”.
The Mitre Box Cup, voted for by visitors to the exhibition, went to Fran Reese for “Boy and Boots”. Sean Wheeldon took the silver medal for “Distraction” and Peter Lund won bronze for “Pennine Freight”.
The Art Society’s next demonstration, on September 3, will take place at the town hall and not the usual venue at the Methodist Church. David Webb will be demonstrating his skills on “Animals in Watercolour” from 2pm to 4pm. Visitors are welcome.
