The shopping scene in Honiton’s New Street has been dealt a fresh blow after a business announced it will close tomorrow (Friday).
The Magpies Nest, which sells antiques, costume jewellery and hand-painted furniture, will officially close its doors for good.
The closure adds to the list of already-shut businesses in Honiton in the last eight months.
In November 2017, Honiton’s last remaining cleaners - Courtesy Cleaners, closed down.
Two months later, confectioners The Chocolate Box closed.
Around that time, the town was shocked after Norman Sparks, the popular owner of N H & S E Sparks in New Street, died.
More recently, Tony McCollum, chair of Honiton and District Chamber of Commerce, warned that residents in Honiton needed to decide what sort of high street they would want in five years’ time.
He added that too many people prefer to shop online.
