Further 500 given to The King’s Centre Food Bank in Honiton, bringing the total raised by Midweek Herald staff to 1,000.

Archant, which publishes the Midweek Herald, has match-funded the amount raised by staff during a sponsored sleep out for The King’s Centre Food Bank in Honiton.

The generous donation of 500 brings the total raised by The Herald for the much-needed service to 1,000.

Advertising executive Tim Mortimer and local councillor Sharon Pavey, who supported the fund-raising initiative, presented a cheque for the donation to food bank volunteer Teresa Hawkes last Friday.

Staff who participated in the night-long sleep out have been presented with a certificate by regional managing director Bernard Driscoll in recognition of their commitment to supporting community initiatives.

The donation was decided by Archant’s board of directors as part of the Archant Gold scheme.

The food bank is desperate for donations of more non-perishable foods.

Demand is currently outstripping supply and many of the collection bins are now empty.

Donations of cereals, sugar, fruit juice, rice, noodles, pasta sauce, biscuits, and tinned tomatoes, carrots, peas, potatoes, meat meals, spaghetti, puddings, and custard are desperately needed to help local families in food crisis.

Items can be taken to The King’s Centre, Lees Building, between 1pm and 3pm on Friday, or, alternatively, to collection bins at St Paul’s Church and Honiton Town Council’s office in New Street.
