The organisers of Armed Forces Day in Honiton say local residents will benefit from the national event being staged in Plymouth this year - as a fly past of aircraft from RNAS Yeovilton will cross over the town en-route to the city.
Military vehicles from Dunkeswell-based Supacat and the Queen’s Rangers Living History Group will be among the attractions in the town centre on June 30.
Steve Parsons, event organiser, says a fuller itinerary this year will see veterans of the Falklands War mark the conflict’s 30th anniversary.
Refreshments will be served in the Mackarness Hall where an exhibition of World War Two uniforms will be on display. “This, along with Allhallows Museum’s magnificent display, will add to the occasion,” said Mr Parsons.
“It being the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the committee has produced a momento which can be won by anyone entering a draw.
“You can enter by taking part in our unique 24-hour vigil by the war memorial, which will run from 6pm on the Friday to 6pm on Armed Forces Day.”
Honiton’s Armed Forces Day Baton will be on show in the town centre on June 16 and 23, when people can sign up to take part in the vigil or buy a special armband for �2.
Profits from the event will benefit forces charities.
