Arrest made after Honiton flat blaze

A woman has been arrested after a blaze broke out in a Honiton flat.

Crews from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service attended the property, in St Paul’s Road, at 7pm, on Wednesday, December 14.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police added: “It is reported that the front door of the property was set alight.

“This led to a fire that caused damage to the immediate area, as well as smoke damage throughout the property.”

The spokesman said a 49-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and awaits questioning.

A fire service spokesman said: “Twenty per cent of flat was damaged by fire and 80 per cent damaged by smoke.

“Three cats were rescued by fire service personnel, and one male was treated on scene by ambulance personnel for smoke inhalation.”
