Volunteer group praised for pushing the resort forward, encouraging more people to move there and reviving the high street
Seaton Town Development Team’s successful campaign to promote the resort has received popular acclaim.
Local customers of the Yorkshire Building Society have chosen the group as a recipient of one of this year’s “Make a Difference Week” awards.
The agency is housed in the offices of accountants Thomas Westcott, in Fore Street, and each year account holders are invited to vote for local causes they want the society to support.
Last week, as one of five winners, the development team volunteers, led by Marketing and Events Co-ordinator Karin Frewin, went along to receive a cheque for £100 from Stuart Carrington.
He praised the group for their work in pushing Seaton forward and giving it the chance to grow again.
“Thank you for all your hard work,” he said.
Mayor Gaynor Sedgwick said the town council was delighted that its town development team had won the award – it was “absolutely wonderful”.
She praised Karin Frewin and her team for their huge amount of hard work towards making a difference in the town.
She said they had really seen the results of the changes – with more people wanting to buy properties in the resort and a trend-bucking revival of its high street.
“I think we only have two empty shops,” she said.
“We want to encourage local people to get behind the town and support their shops – we want people to explore the town. There’s nothing you can’t get in Seaton!
“So thank you Karin, you go the extra mile, and thank your team of volunteers”.
