Axe Valley docs take on Grizzly challenge

Seaton GPs put on their running shoes to raise cash for home nursing service

THREE “flying” doctors from the Axe Valley are in training for one of the nation’s toughest running races.

GPs Joe Pitt, Roger Bramley and Joe Kent are taking on the Grizzly to raise money for the Home Nursing Service.

Their fund raising effort is being organised through the Seaton Hospital League of Friends.

Dr Pitt, the group’s chairman, said: “The Home Nursing Service, which the League has committed to funding a total of 250,000 over the next five years, has proved itself to be a fantastic service within our community for patients who are always very vulnerable and sick, and often in the last phase of their lives.

“We all feel very strongly the merits of supporting this service in any way we can, and this is one small way we can show our own commitment to it.

“We seek our communities’ support for the effort we ourselves are prepared to make both by coming out to cheer ourselves, and indeed all the runners on, and also by sponsoring us. Any donations large or small are very welcome.”

League volunteers will also be in the Co-op this Friday morning (February 4) with sponsorship forms.

This year’s Grizzly, setting off from Seaton, takes place on March 13. It is described by organisers as : “Twentyish muddy, hilly, boggy, beachy miles of the multiest-terrain running experience you will find this side of the end of time.”
