Group take a ‘tour de Brittany’
Members of the Axe Valley Pedallers travelled to France for a day’s cycling – their annual March trip across the Channel.
This year, 18 cyclists took the ferry to St Malo for the challenge ahead.
The group, organised by Anne Roberts, disembarked in sunshine and enjoyed a bright and breezy day, even managing an hour of picnicking and sunbathing on the south facing and sheltered beach in Cancale.
Some members had not cycled in France before and ability, age and experience varied widely, as did the bikes - including one folding and one electric bike - but everyone kept to the correct side of the road and motorists were generally polite.
A spokesman said: “Negotiating the traffic and finding room in cafés for a large group of people and bikes was interesting but the French were very accommodating and fun was had by all.
“Boarding for the return trip was thankfully swift and efficient as the chill of the evening closed in, and both sea crossings were relatively smooth, so the expedition was home in time for Sunday lunch.”
