Exchange students and their teachers from KGS Kirchweyhe School, near Bremen, in north Germany, recently visited Axminster Heritage Centre.
The group of 15 were shown round by volunteers who explained the history of the town using the exhibits and displays on show. They also learnt how the world famous carpet making factory started in Axminster in the 18th century.
Axe Valley College arranged the week-long programme, which also included visits to Axminster Carpets, Dartmoor, Bath, a fossil hunting session in Charmouth and a day at River Cottage HQ. This is the first year that the two schools have run an exchange programme, with Axe Valley Community College students having visited Germany last December.
Axe Valley governors’ chairman Heather Burnett said: “‘We’re very pleased that the whole visit has gone so well and are already planning another exchange next year, which will run to a similar programme.”
