September heralds new programmes for both Lyme Regis and Axminster Art Societies .

Both had very successful exhibitions during the summer when the Lyme Regis Society held its annual exhibition in The Town Mill Malthouse Gallery over Whitsun and also exhibited during the town’s lifeboat week in July.

The Axminster Society exhibited in its own marquee at the Axe Vale Festival in June and is planning another exhibition in Lyme Regis Town Mill Malthouse Gallery this November.

Now Autumn is here, The Lyme Regis Art Society opens its new season on Tuesday, September 19, from 2pm to 4pm in The Woodmead Halls, Hill Road, where Mike McDonald will be using watercolour and mixed-media to demonstrate “E J Widgery - Painting like a Moorland Master”.

At the turn of the 20th century, Widgery was producing beautiful watercolours of Dartmoor and images of his work can be seen online. Further details of the new programme and about the society can be found on the website www.lymeregisartssociety.org.uk

Meanwhile Axminster Art Society opens with a demonstration on Wednesday, September 20, from 2.30pm to 4.30pm in the United Reformed Church Hall, Axminster.

Richard Turner will give a demonstration of work in pastels followed by his all-day workshop in All Saints Village Hall on Saturday, October 7.

Richard works from his studio in Meare, in the heart of the Somerset levels. He works in pastel on a variety of surfaces often incorporating liquid mediums to produce beautifully evocative local land and seascapes together with more figurative pieces depicting snapshots of everyday life.

He says his ‘representative impressionism’ is aimed at the emotions rather than the intellect, attempting to capture the essence of time and place. His work can be seen on his website online.

The society’s website www.axminsterartsociety.uk has details of all the programme and about the organisation in general.

Both Societies welcome visitors and new members.
