Linda White shows Seaton and District Art Society her essential equipment while working outdoors
Popular Axminster artist Linda White took some of her important travelling companions along to the June meeting of Seaton and District Art Society.
She showed members the small stool and special backpack that contains everything she might need for a few hours ‘plein air’ sketching.
Inside the backpack was a peaked cap and suncream, both essential for any artist who sits beside the sea for any length of time.
Then out came various sizes of sketchbook, followed by a pencil case of 4B pencils, disposable drawing pens and art pens that will dilute in water.
‘Always work in pen, so you can’t rub out, ‘ said Linda,.
Next came a plastic water bottle, waterpot and paintbox, retractable brushes, water soluble coloured pencils, plenty of kitchen paper and finally a very important snack.
She emphasised the value of drawing.
‘Anybody can do it. You don’t have to be an artist. The simple act of putting pencil to paper is theraputic and liberating because it frees you from everyday life. While drawing, you forget everything else. It puts you in the zone. ‘
