Indian music duo named the west’s best band

Internationally acclaimed human rights artist Ricky Romain, from Axminster, has won a top award - for his music.

The talented painter is also an accomplished sitar player, performing in the duo Samswara alongside Jon Sterckx on tabla.

Now the pair have been named Best Band in South West and South Wales’.

The won the accolade in the MTM South West Asian and Ethnic Minorities Awards which are organised by Radio Mast -

the first Asian radio station in South West and South Wales.

Samswara have been thrilling and entertaining audiences throughout the UK since 2001. During this time they have developed a reputation amongst Indian music lovers nationally for their on stage rapport and spontaneous and playful musical dialogues.

While Ricky produces his evocative paintings at his studio in Axminster Jon lives in Stroud and is a professional percussionist.

The two men have been working together for 14 years.

Unfortunately Jon was away visiting his family in Spain so Ricky had to travel to the winners ceremony to collect the award on his own
