AXMINSTER Town Council is considering setting up a police cadet scheme.

Neighbourhood beat manager PC Darren Herridge said that the scheme would cost £3,500 to run for 20 cadets per year, and the police would not fund it.

He said during the council's monthly meeting on Monday: "Whether or not it comes to fruition depends on the level of support."

Mayor Ron Jones said: "I think it's an excellent idea. I will speak to organisations and see if they can get it off the ground.
