Nine local groups share in just over £1,400 thanks to another great procession night

Axminster Carnival Committee handed out cheques totalling just over £1,400 to local groups last night (Monday).

Nine organisations received a share in the cash which was raised on procession night.

The presentation evening took place at the Axminster Inn and recipients were the Rotary Club, Axminster Scouts, Karizma Majorettes, ARC Counselling Service, Axminster Guildhall, Axminster United Charities, Rainbow Playgroup, Force cancer charity and Axminster Youth Club.

Chairman Ron Jones thanked their sponsors and the public for their donations.

He said: “It cost in excess of £4,000 this year to put the carnival on and most of this is raised with our bingo at The Guildhall which happens on Monday evenings, with eyes down at 8pm.”

Meanwhile Axminster will be hosting the East Devon Carnival Circuit presentation evening at The Guildhall on Friday, November 29, when cups and prizes will be awarded. All are welcome and tickets cost £7.50 for adults, and £5 for minors . The price includes a disco and food. For further details call 07840 268730.

Added Mr Jones: “I would like to thank all carnival members past and present for their help over the years.”
